Foliage Filigree

Prints on tracing paper

Dimensions: 91cm x 210 cm

This work is a collaboration with leaf miners, insects whose feeding larvae create intricate trails within plant leaves. These trails, often dismissed as cosmetic damage, are reframed to highlight their poetic beauty and ecological significance. The large format prints enlarge and emphasise the beauty of the markmakings of the leaf miners. By examining the paradox of humans considering the leaf miners as pests and planting companion plants to protect crop aesthetics while causing widespread environmental harm themselves, I seek to facilitate a dialogue with more-than-human perspectives. This work questions our control over nature and emphasizes the often overlooked complexities and interdependencies within ecosystems.
